Meet the new intern

PRSA Volunteer Chapter | Published on 5/20/2025

Hi everyone!

My name is Amelia Sandie, and I’m a graduate student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, working toward my master’s degree in public relations. This summer, I’m excited to step into the role of social media and communications intern!

I was born and raised in Brighton, a seaside city on the south coast of England. I grew up playing basketball, representing England and then Great Britain before I came to the U.S. to play Division I basketball at Nicholls State University in Louisiana. Although I no longer play basketball, it will always be a huge part of who I am and has shaped me tremendously through the years. Alongside playing at Nicholls State, I discovered my passion for public relations thanks to incredible professors who encouraged me to see myself as more than an athlete. With their support, I took a step away from the court and began exploring other post-grad opportunities.

After completing my undergraduate degree, I came to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville as the graduate assistant for marketing and communications at University Housing. I was thrilled to join such a prestigious university. It was a surreal moment when I received my graduate offer.

Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work with some amazing organizations. Back home in London, I interned with David Beckham’s communications team, collaborating closely with his personal social media manager and public relations director. In Louisiana, I served as the communications and social media intern for Upside Downs LA, a nonprofit that supports children with Down syndrome. Alongside my internship with Upside Downs, I also worked with the sports marketing department at Nicholls State University. This summer, in addition to my work with the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), I’ll be interning with the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in its marketing and communications department, so if you’re in the area, feel free to stop by and say hello.

As PRSA’s intern, I’ll be managing event recaps, writing newsletters, and handling social media content. I’m excited to connect with our chapter’s members and work alongside such a talented and experienced board. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming, and I already feel so lucky to be a part of this team.

If you attend any of our social or professional events and hear a British accent, that’s me! Please come and say hello. I’m looking forward to a great summer ahead and hope to meet many of you soon.
